Writing off the Big East

I feel like Jerry in this sketch. The quickest way to get a fellow Cardinal to look at you like you have two heads is to suggest that Louisville remain in the Big East...

Someone's gotta explain this to me like I'm a 5-year old. What am I missing? Why is it that two-weeks ago the Big East was the best basketball conference ever assembled, and was eagerly awaiting the Horned Frogs to add juice to an improving football conference. And now, after two subpar football programs leave, suddenly we're toast. Burnt toast. Dead. Doomed. Deep fried. No chance. Can't happen. Slam the casket. Write the obit. Man what a pathetic excuse for a conference.

What the hell am I missing? WHY CAN'T WE JUST ADD SOME GOOD/BETTER TEAMS AND CALL IT A GOOD/BETTER CONFERENCE?

  1. There is no way the big 12 does not take one or two big east teams. That would do it for the big east. We need to be one of those teams.the big 12 bball conference will be really good and the football would be top two. We would get to travel to Austin possible trips to Dallas . These are affordable trips unlike new York . Also the big 12 is no longer against adding a new Texas team so tcu probably will never be in the big east.

  2. Good points. But part of my argument, I guess, is to start fighting back against some of these conventional wisdoms.

So we would have to fight back. Don't let the Big 12 take "one or two big east teams". At least not without a passionate push. Keep intact as is, which I don't believe is impossible, and contact TCU to sell them that the vision they signed up for is still very much alive. The Big 12 is still a mess, which still seems to be one of the overlooked factors in this debate. The Big East is depleted, but it's not a mess. The teams aren't at each others throats. We just need a strategy.

One area I don't see where your coming from is the Ausin/Dallas over NYC argument. Playing in Madison Square Gardens for a week with the ESPN spotlight squarely on you is one of the biggest PROs the Big East has going for it. Even if it is too pricey for most fans, it's a phenomenal recruiting tool.
